BIC for “Indonesia Can!”
National Science and Technology has not been a significant contributor towards the National economic growth due to many factors. It still cannot be compared to well-developed countries, even to new emerging industrializing countries (US and the western countries as well as South Korea, China, India, Brazil, even Malaysia, our neighbor country). They already placed science and technology as the main driver for economic growth. The National Science and Technology Sector is not yet accounted as one of the compulsory topic in many discussions on economic growth of our beloved country.
‘Super short’ term orientated short cuts were made, only to gain financial profits, is trapping most of the productions sectors members’ attitude. Hence Science and Technology is regarded as burdening costs instead of as a profit multiplying factor.One identified factor that most analysts agreed upon is the inharmonious point of views and relationships between the industrial/distribution group practitioners (Business, B) and the National Research and Development Institutions (Academics, A). The government, G, is also caught responsible. The government policies set have not induced the spirit to have both components bond smoother relationships. ABG in Indonesia need an altering mind set transformation in order to synergize smoother, precisely like the patterns happening in other countries mentioned above.
BIC's presence is a fresh wind blowing towards the effort to synchronize the three elements of A-B-G. Establishing BIC is an initiative, with mission to bridge relationships between the components A and B; B and G; also A and G. BIC started the right step by setting innovation as the keyword, emphasizing not simply innovations in products and process, but also innovations that enable the people of Indonesia see and capture any opportunities that enhance the beauty and enrich the ‘Emerald of Equator – Indonesia’.
The paradox of abundant nature resources yet poor general welfare, has been lingering too long in Indonesia. ABG should be the weapon towards eliminating the paradox from our home land.
I give my thumbs up and fully support BIC's ideas, strategic and tactical efforts. From the bottom of my heart, I pledge to support BIC’s spirit in providing the science and technology in a more appropriate proportion in all layers and groups in Indonesia. BIC is part of the new page of Indonesia economic transformation, assuring not only new employment opportunities and reduce the numbers of poverty, but also place Indonesia back in the main global political map.
Congratulation towards the newly established BIC. I wish her ‘Good Luck’, since I believe BIC will be the living monument for the resurrection of our national confidence.
